George Thomas Realty

    George Thomas Realty has had an active role in providing homes since 1966.  During that time, the black community had to respond to unethical practices here in Omaha. Understanding the frustration and needs of the community, George Thomas founded the real estate company.  During the mid 60’s many in our community could not afford decent housing. George Thomas Realty helped make homeownership a reality.  Still motivated by the desire to see more in the community own homes, Thomas is involved in the recently developed "Homeowner Solutions" a community based organization designed to teach homeowners about all aspects of buying, selling and maintaining homes.

In the 70’s Mr. Thomas saw a need for affordable auto and homeowners insurance and he established Thomas Insurance Agency which is now called “Auto Insurance Mart”. When Mr. Thomas passed in 1983, Cameron carried on the family business and says, “Our goal is the same now as in the late 60’s, Professional Service with Honesty and Integrity”. 

    In 2002, George Thomas Realty was recognized by SBA’s S.C.O.R.E. program for outstanding accomplishments for a small business.  In 2001, George Thomas Realty was awarded the Golden Spike award by the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce in August for their history of contributions to the community and the City of Omaha.  Also in 2001, Cameron H. Thomas developed Discover Black Omaha a directory of black owned businesses on the web.  The company is devoted to helping consumers find minority business people to promote networking and to report on the positive aspects of the minority community.   Once again the Thomas family legacy will include the opportunity to help the black community by providing our community access to the future, connection to one another and connection to other communities around the world via the World Wide Web.
